Train to the clouds
The most striking railway journey of Latinamerica is located in the Puna Salteña. You will find a unique traverse that reaches in some part of the journey the 4000 meters over sea level. You cannot miss it!
Trip to the Valleys
This trip to the valleys lasts two days and it is a 520-km trip. This touristic circuit offers different attractions because of its beautiful landscapes and amazing experiences.
The journey can be started from Salta city to the south by Route 68 passing through different towns of Lerma’s Valley in order to get to the Cabra Corral Dam. Further on in La Quebrada de las Conchas ( Las Conchas Gorge) there are a series of geological formations characterized by their reddish colours and shapes. Walking through the Garganta del Diablo ( The Devil’s Throat) and the Aphitheater is also included in this trip.
Through this road you will get to Cafayate. The trip continues down route 40 passing through Animaná, San Carlos, Angastaco. Molinos and Seclantás towns in order to get to Cachi. Finally you will go along route 33 passing through the imposing Cuesta del Obsipo (the Bishop Slope) and the Qubrada de Escoipe (Escoipe Gorge).
North Circuit
The North Circuit goes through the Yungas’ jungle passing along Pichanal, Embarcación, Tartagal, Aguaray, Salvador Mazza, Orán and Los Toldos towns.
The trip starts in Salta in route 34 passing through General Gúemes.
In the journey you will visit other circuits such as the thermal water from Los Sauces, the colonial farmhouses and Campo Santo, El Bordo and Cobos towns.
Going along route 34 you will arrive to Pichanal specifically to Manuel Erodi a special place for the fishing of dorados and surubíes (types of fish).
Near here it is Baritú National Park. In order to get to Baritú National Park it is necessary to prepare an expedition with people that know the region well and to choose between spring and winter. Spring is recommended.
Iruya
This town is located at 316 km from Salta and it is possible to get there by a road that is born after Humahuaca town in Jujuy. Iruya is placed in the spur of the mountains that goes over the gorge where the Iruya River passes. This town with small and very steep roads has a strong pre-Columbian root which increases its value not only because of its landscapes but also because of its culture and history.
Andean Circuit
This circuit starts in Salta city and goes up through route 51 from Campo Quijano town also known as Los Andes entrance. This place is the setting for important festivities such as The Tradition’s Day.
Near to the town is the Qubrada del Toro ( Bull’s Gorge), which has a wonderful landscape that frames the ascent to La Puna.
In the Km 106 of the same route is the pre-Incaic town Santa Rosa of Tastil. If you go on route 51 you will arrive to San Antonio of the Cobres town located at 3775 meters over sea level. Its inhabitants show their craftworks - mainly lama woven- to the tourists. From that place the journey can continue through route 40 to the north until Salinas Grandes (Big Salt Flats) completing the circuit through Purmamarca in Jujuy City in order to get to Humahuaca or to come back to Salta city through San Salvador of Jujuy.
Another option is to go on National Route 51 through Paso of Sico to Chile or to meet the provincial route 129 to Tolar Grande and Antofagasta of the Sierra in Catamarca.
Southeast Circuit
Through route 34 you will get to Metán the agricultural center of the south of the province and a perfect place to practice trekking and fishing.
Fourteen Km forward it is the Yatasto Posta where the Generals San Martín, Belgrano and Güemes met during the independence war.
Through the same route 34 you will get to Rosario de la Frontera the second agricultural center of the area.
Del Rey National Park is located in the center of the province of Salta. This park plays an important role in the hydric regulation which is essential for the development of Salta’s agriculture. It is totally sorrounded by lower hillocks covered with trees what makes this place ideal to enjoy activities which involve contact with nature such as trekking, bird sighting, rambling and camping.
