Salta
It is a city that offers a wide variety of attractions to the traveller. The vast extension of its territory enables the existance of different types of climate and ladscapes all year long. From the almost never ending spring of the city and its sorroundings until the severe cold of the Puna and the tropical heat of the Chaco Salteño. The most appealing quality of Salta city is precisely its climate: Temperatures around 20 degrees can be enjoyed throughout the year which makes summer and winter two intermediate seasons.
The landscapes are endless: from the aridity of the Puna to the lush vegetation of the jungle of the north of the province where around 50 types of trees per hectare and a hundred types of birds can be found amongst the red shades of the Calchaquíes Valleys’ hills.
Nature is not the only thing that makes Salta a beautiful place (the word Salta comes from the quechua – the first inhabitants of this land- and it means the beautiful), but also man’s work that is the creator of a rich tradition and culture. This can be seen in the colonial architecture that is still found in the capital of the city and around all the province such as in houses and temples as well as in the most ancient
pre-Hispanic costumes for example the Pachamama worship, the painted caves of Guachipas and the many patronal parties in the interior of the province.
Salta has an important role in argentinian history. It was the place where Güemes and his men fought for the independence of the country. Tourists can see many features of the history still alive in each corner and in each town of Salta.
Hospitality in the province is a historic tradition highlighted by travellers in their travel journals. This tradition remains today untouched.
